Totally natural homemade dishwasher detergent, which is effective and even edible. Consist of hydrogen peroxide 8% and baking soda. I have been using this of over 4 years and love it. Since then my dishwasher has remained sparkly clean and my glassware looks like new. Haven’t had any slime build up in the dishwasher which we always got with commercial detergents. And best of all we don’t have to worry about any chemical residues as all the ingredients are.
This is how we do it. First we run the full dishwasher without any detergent for 10 minutes. We stop the cycle using the stop button. Then take a glass or cup and place it upright in the upper tray. Add 2-3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide into the cup. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the detergent compartment. Then start your normal cycle.
Some notes on the 10 minutes pre-washing cycle. This cycle is un-heated so it uses minimal energy. You have to stop the cycle by using the stop button. We have to press the stop button for 3 seconds to do this. This makes sure that when you re-start the machine, the pre-wash water is pumped out. If you simply open the door to stop the cycle, the machine will continue with that dirty water.
If you still have a septic tank, it’s actually health for it. As the oxygen produced by the hydrogen peroxide helps the magical bacteria doing their crucial work.
