Yes you can, have your cake and eat it. This way of drying clothes has nothing but advantages over a tumble dryer, which your wallet, your clothes and even the environment will thank you for. Advantages over a tumble dryer :
- Fraction of the cost to run
- No heat or mechanical damage to clothes. In fact no damage what-so-ever
- Won’t add to your homes humidity
- Much lower peak power, reducing maximum potential on your electric bill
So how is this possible? Using a dehumidifier inside a clothes tent. A clothes tent is quite similar to those portable cloth wardrobes you can buy. The only difference is that this tent needs to be air tight. Place the dehumidifier in the tent with the clothes, and run for about 2 hours. The moisture in the clothes is drawn into the dryer surrounding air. Using no damaging heat or mechanical stress ( where does all that lint come from in a dryer? – damaged clothes).
Life is never like that “all rosey”. There is only one catch, it requires more room. My tent is roughly 2m long 1.8m high and 0.7m deep. This allows me to hang and dry a full 8kg washing machine load.
